Dance Theater Workshop
219 W 19th St.
Performing in Yoshiko Chuma's "A Page Out of Order: M"
Known for her trans–continental collaborations, choreographer Yoshiko Chuma’s A Page Out of Order: M stretches across the Balkans to Asia to unearth the physical and emotional hardships that haunt war–torn countries. Ritualistically intense, this world premiere draws on the shared histories and unfamiliar stories of artists living in Albania, Japan, Macedonian and the US. 15 musicians and dancers share the stage in an installation environment that acts as a metaphor for psychic space. Evoking 1920s Japanese silent cinema, projected films are layered over the performers’ choreographed chaos.
